WILKES COUNTY – A routine traffic stop Wednesday morning led to a state trooper providing life-saving aid to a shooting victim and the arrest of a suspect, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
On Wednesday, January 8 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Trooper A.T. Hall witnessed a passenger vehicle on Christian Home Church Road run a stop sign while making a left turn onto Traphill Road in Wilkes County. Trooper Hall activated his blue lights and siren and conducted a traffic stop in a church parking lot.
Once the vehicle came to rest, the driver exited the vehicle requesting assistance, stating he had just been shot. The driver then fell to the ground and Trooper Hall immediately started to render life-saving aid while relaying information to the SHP Newton Communications Center, which then disseminated it to the Wilkes County 911 Center.
Trooper Hall and other Wilkes County troopers then assisted the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office at an address where the shooting suspect was taken into custody.
The Highway Patrol commended Trooper Hall for his life-saving measures initiated by a simple traffic stop that ultimately led to a victim receiving aid and a suspect being arrested.
