Town of Boone Now Accepting Nominations for the Fourth Annual 1872 Award

BOONE, N.C. — The Town of Boone is now accepting nominations for the fourth annual Town of Boone 1872 Award, which recognizes residents and organizations for substantial contributions to the Town of Boone.

The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2026. Nomination forms can be submitted to Nicole Harmon, Town Clerk, at nicole.harmon@boonenc.gov or returned to Town Hall at 567 West King Street. Additional information can be found at www.townofboone.net/1872award.

Any individual or organization that has made a significant impact on the Town of Boone may be nominated. Town of Boone residence is not required. Town of Boone staff and elected officials are not eligible, and posthumous nominations will not be considered. Anyone may make a nomination, and once submitted, nominations will stay on file for three years.

The 1872 Award honors innovation, preservation, service, and tradition. Examples of contributions that may be recognized include contributing to the cultural fabric of Boone, making outstanding public service contributions, improving quality of life through environmental protection or sustainability, making important educational impact, enhancing recreational opportunities, contributing to historic preservation, and increasing the economic vitality of the Town and its residents.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Cultural Resources Advisory Board, and final recommendations will be provided to the Town Council for approval. Up to three awards may be presented each calendar year, including up to two individuals and one organization.

Awards will be presented by the Mayor or a member of the Town Council at a significant Town of Boone public event, such as the Boonerang Music & Arts Festival, the July 4th Celebration, or Festive First Friday.
