Join the Town of Boone in celebrating Independence Day on Friday, July 4!
Kick off the festivities with the annual Town of Boone 4th of July Parade, at 11am. Parking is free in town-owned lots, so arrive early to find a spot to view along King Street. Enjoy live patriotic music in front of the Jones House courtesy of the Watauga Community Band.
The grand marshals of the parade will be our 2025 Town of Boone 1872 award recipients. This year’s individual recipients are Kay Borkowski and David Jackson, and the organizational recipient is Hospitality House.
Following the parade, come hang out on the Jones House lawn and enjoy free refreshments, including watermelon, lemonade, and cake from Stick Boy Bread Company. Stick around for the presentation of the 1872 Award.
Close out the day with the annual fireworks display at Clawson-Burnley Park on the Boone Greenway, starting at dusk. Arrive early, bring a picnic, and enjoy the evening. Find parking in lots along Martin Luther King Jr. Street and at ASU's State Farm lot.
Parade Parking
-All downtown Boone metered spaces and kiosk lots have FREE PARKING all day on Friday, July 4. Additional parking is available in Appalachian State public lots – please pay attention to all signage.
1872 Award Winners:
Kay Borkowski is a longtime High Country Resident whose service to the community include her work with the Hospitality House, Appalachian State University, and a number of other civic organizations.
David Jackson has been an indispensable voice in the High Country for years, and as President and CEO of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce he took a leading role in the community during the recovery from COVID-19 and Helene.
Hospitality House is a regional nonprofit agency serving seven counties in Western NC, and since 1984 they have provided a safe and healthy environment to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and equipped them with the tools to become self-sufficient and thrive.
