Town of Boone Announces Road Name Changes, Martin Luther King, Jr. Street & Burrell Street

Last Updated on September 11, 2019 9:48 am

At their regularly scheduled meeting held on August 15, 2019, the Boone Town Council voted unanimously to rename a portion of Hunting Hills Lane after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in an attempt to honor Dr. King’s legacy in the Town of Boone.

Beginning next month, the front portion of Hunting Hills Lane from State Farm Road to the bridge will be called Martin Luther King, Jr. Street. The remainder of the roadway will retain the name Hunting Hills Lane. This location was chosen in an effort to reach visitors of the nearby children’s park, ballfields and the new County recreation center to remind them of Dr. King’s impact around the world.

At the same meeting, the Boone Town Council voted to change the name of S. Water Street to Burrell Street. This change is in honor of a slave who is considered to be an important historical figure in our community due to his assistance to Dan’l Boone and his hunting party when they traveled through the area we now know as Boone. This change will go into effect on October 1, 2019.
