Thursday Rain & Wind Lead To Power Outages In Watauga & Ashe

High winds and saturated ground resulted in power outages in the High Country on Thursday night and into Friday morning.

Fallen trees on power lines lead to over 2200 outages combined in Watauga and Ashe counties, according to Renee Whitener with Blue Ridge Energy.

Here is a breakdown of the outages:

Watauga:
Affected Members: 166
Time Off: 4:22pm on 5/25/17
Time On: 8:19am on 5/26/17
Longest Duration: 5hr 33min
Main Cause: Fallen Trees due to wind/rain
Areas: Sherwood, Cranberry Springs, and Meat Camp.

Ashe:
Affected Members: 2053
Time Off: 3:13pm on 5/25/17
Time On: 1:06am on 5/26/17
Longest Duration: 3hr 38min
Main Cause: Fallen Trees due to wind/rain
Areas: Smethport, West Jefferson, Creston, Baldwin, and Nathan's Creek.
