South Carolina Earthquake Felt In Watauga & Ashe

Some Watauga and Ashe County residents were quite surprised to feel their house shaking or hear objects shaking late Friday night.

A 4.1 earthquake was measured 7 miles west northwest of Edgefield, South Carolina at 10:25pm according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Reports from Blowing Rock, Boone, Vilas, and Fleetwood came into the WataugaRoads.com social media outlets about the event.

The High Country has had experiences with earthquakes over the last several years. Most recent was a 2.6 quake near Blowing Rock on August 25, 2013. Shocks were also felt locally from earthquakes in Kentucky on November 10, 2012, and in Virginia on August 23, 2011.
