Ashe County, N.C. – Sheriff B. Phil Howell is proud to announce the launch of the Ashe County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff's Community Crime Map, a new online tool designed to keep residents informed, engaged, and connected when it comes to public safety.
The Community Crime Map project began in 2021 and was completed in 2025, reflecting the Sheriff's Office's continued commitment to public awareness through its partnership with the community of Ashe.
This interactive map allows citizens to view up-to-date incident reports across Ashe County, identify trends by location and time, and gain a clearer understanding of activity in their neighborhoods. The easy-to-use platform provides accurate, real-time information to help residents stay informed and make proactive decisions to keep their families and communities safe.
“We are and always have been committed to Ashe County, its safety, and the folks that live here,” said Sheriff Howell. “By sharing real data and promoting open communication, the Community Crime Map gives our citizens another tool to stay informed and engaged while strengthening confidence between the Sheriff's Office and the people we serve.”
The Community Crime Map is part of the Ashe County Sheriff's Office's ongoing efforts to use technology and innovation to enhance service, increase awareness, and support the shared goal of a safer Ashe County for everyone.
“This project began in 2021 and took several years of hurdles to complete. We have two additional projects in the background that we plan to implement in the next four years for a complete package of communicating with our citizens”.
Residents are encouraged to explore the Community Crime Map and use it as a resource to stay connected with what is happening in their community. You can visit AsheSheriff.com, click on the banner image, or visit it directly at https://ashesheriff.com/crimemap. Instructions are there for adjusting the filters and viewing the majority of our calls. The system has been set and will be adjusted in the future. Some “types” of calls will not appear due to the sensitivity of the event and the nature of the call.
Please note, the Sheriff's Crime Map is NOT EVERY CALL we receive; these are the types of calls that the incident has been deemed criminal in nature, a report has been taken, and we have deemed it an actual investigation or arrest. We get over 70,000 “Calls-For-Service” per year; you will only see the major ones.
