A source is confirming President Obama's motorcade is scheduled to be in the High Country on Monday.
The time frame of arrival appears to be anywhere from early afternoon into the evening. The source stated that the motorcade was scheduled to arrive after the speech in Wilkes County initially, but those plans could change. No public events are scheduled.
Road closures will occur but not known are the times yet. The source adds that the motorcade will number 30 plus vehicles.
All traffic will be shut down while the motorcade is using any particular route, normal traffic flow will not be allowed until after the motorcade has exited that road or stretch of road. The President and White House can change plans at any time so a time frame of what roads will be closed and when is not set in stone, the source adds.
As reported Saturday here, a post on Watauga High's website stated “Watauga County Schools will release students early on Monday, October 17, 2011. The prekindergarten-eighth grade schools will dismiss at 12:00 noon and Watauga High School will dismiss at 1:00. Lunches will be served and buses will run regular routes. Everyone will need to be gone from the Watauga High campus by 1:30 Monday afternoon. This includes all students and staff.” Our source confirms that this is due to a possible stop at WHS by President Obama.
We'll be keeping track of any information that might come out, along with post from our facebook and twitter pages about road updates. We'll add the information here in an easy to follow format.
