Prescribed Burn Planned for McDowell County

Last Updated on February 24, 2014 4:48 pm

The U.S. Forest Service plans to conduct a prescribed burn on Tuesday (Feb. 25) on about 120 acres on the Grandfather Ranger District, Pisgah National Forest.

The prescribed burn will take place in McDowell County, off of Old Linville Rd. The prescribed burn will reduce the amount of fuel on the forest floor, preventing catastrophic wildfire and reducing risks to nearby communities.

Public safety is the highest priority during a prescribed burn. No roads or trails will be closed. Drivers should use caution when traveling in these areas as there may be smoke and firefighters on the roads.
