Poplar Grove Road closed

A motor vehicle accident has caused a closure of a short section of Poplar Grove Road since very early this morning. At 10am The road was still closed from approximately To 700 Poplar Grove Rd. Police Officers, DOT and utility crews are clearing a light pole and downed power, cable and phone lines from the road.

*10:30am – The Watauga Democrat reports that the accident happened at about 1:45am. A 1997 Subaru ran off the road to the right, hit a utility pole, spun and rolled down an embankment where it hit a parked vehicle,

Brent Michael Decker, 22, of Thomasville, was the driver of the car. He was was charged with driving while impaired.

12:15pm – Poplar Grove Road is back open. Crews with New River Light & Power were able to restore the power pole around 7:30 am. Crews with Charter & AT&T worked until near midday to restore their services, which kept the road closed until all were complete.
