Possible delays on highway 105 as the old Watauga High School is on fire.
4:56pm – Working fire in auditorium of old high school off Hwy 105 in Boone. Mutual aid from Blowing Rock &
Foscoe.
Per scanner they are clearing smoke from area now. Can't reach area above old stage, due to thick smoke.
5:14pm- Per scanner they now have lights to take inside to search for add areas of fire,
5:50pm – Fire is out, investigating. Thick, thick smoke reported.
6:38pm. The Watauga Democrat is reporting “Multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire at the old Watauga High School building in Boone just before 5 p.m. Tuesday. Smoke could be seen billowing out from the right side of the building near the gymnasium. Officials could not provide additional information as of press time.
A dispatcher informed officials about a caller who said he witnessed two people at the old high school site between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday while he was running, but it's unknown if this is related to the fire”
