Visitors heading to the High Country for the holidays will not encounter lane closures along the U.S. 321 widening project in Blowing Rock. However, construction work will continue on select days around the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.
Lane closure restrictions begin this Friday at 6 a.m. and run until Jan. 2, 2013 at 6 p.m. All traffic, including large trucks, will be able to travel through the business corridor during this time. Crews will not be working on the project from Dec. 22-25 and Jan. 1, 2013.
The N.C. Department of Transportation reminds all motorists to drive cautiously through the work zone. A lane shift is located near Cliff Dwellers Inn at the intersection with U.S. 221/U.S. 321 Business. Currently, road closures are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. (when necessary) between Westview Drive and the intersection with U.S. 221/U.S. 321 Business near Shoppes on the Parkway. Visitors can still travel to businesses on each side of the closure area without any problems, as well as visit downtown Blowing Rock.
The speed limit along U.S. 321 remains 35 miles per hour. The N.C. State Highway Patrol continues to monitor this corridor for speeding violations.
Call the project hotline at (828) 964-3260 to speak to an NCDOT representative during regular weekday business hours (8 a.m. until 5 p.m.). Please note that the hotline will not be available on Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1, 2013.
