UPDATE 3:55pm – All Boone Police units are clear from the area of the airport.
A plane trying to take off at Boone Airport has crashed through a fence, coming to rest barely in Bamboo Road and leading to the closing of that road.
Sgt. Geoff Hayes, with Boone Police Department, tells WataugaOnline.com that the plane was leaving the airport traveling east toward Deep Gap, when vibration(s) was felt by those inside the plane. The plane never left the ground and went through a fence and stopped in Bamboo Road, Hayes adds.
No injuries are reported. The road is expected to be re-open this afternoon.
