Mountain Electric Cooperative Update- Hurricane Helene Restoration -October 26, 2024

Status of Newland:

We still have approximately 125 members without power in Newland service area.

Service crews including outside contractors are working in all areas on secondary lines and meter poles. They are also changing out broken poles with energized 3 phase lines, to prevent outages from occurring if the poles were to break.

General area crews are working in Newland district

Crews are in the following areas again today: Calhoun Hollow, Altamont Acres, Buckeye Rd, and Booger Hollow. Crews are still setting meter poles in various areas and finding more each day that need replaced.

We have been instructed by Avery County inspectors office that each house in the Meadows at Land Harbor will have to be inspected before we can restore power. We have numerous primary and secondary boxes turned on their tops and every meter base in this area was flooded as well.

We still have a lot of damage to underground infrastructures, and it is very time consuming to repair.

Status for Mtn City service area:

Mountain City members should have power unless you have an isolated outage they are making repairs to. If you still do not have power, please report it at 423-727-1800.

General area crews are working in Roan Mtn district— All Roan Mountain members should have power d. If you still do not have power and you did not call to report it yesterday, please call the Roan Mountain office at 423-772-3521.

If you have a medical need (oxygen, dialysis or other medical conditions), please find a local emergency shelter. Electricity and essential needs are being supplied at these shelters.

We understand how frustrating it is to be without power and are still here working to get it back on to you as quickly as possible.
