More Than 5 lbs. of Marijuana Seized in Traffic Stop

Jefferson N.C. – Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of 18-year-old Joshua Smith Cordoba from Catawba, N.C.


On May 7th, 2024, Deputy Josh Carter was patrolling the Jefferson area when he noticed a vehicle with several traffic violations. Deputy Carter initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle; the driver was identified as Joshua Cordoba, who was driving on an indefinitely suspended license.

Upon the search of the vehicle, Deputy PJ Phillips found 3 concealed handguns, a large sum of money, over 5lbs of marijuana, a baggie containing mushrooms, and several drug paraphernalia items.

Deputies placed Cordoba under arrest and transported him to the Ashe County Detention Center without further incident.

Joshua Smith Cordoba, 18, of Catawba, N.C., was booked and later released at the Ashe County Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond. Cordoba charges include:
