A storm system that largely stayed stationary over Valle Crucis on Thursday afternoon produced minor flooding.
The storm, which began around 3:30pm, produced heavy downpours and frequent lightning. The WataugaOnline.com weather reporting station recorded 1.04 inches in just over an hour during the event. The amount was enough that some small creeks and small streams came out of their banks. Minor flooding was observed in the lowest of points of some yards and fields and at the Valle Crucis Methodist Church parking lot.
The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory for the southwestern portion of Watauga County at 4:46pm. It marked the second day in a row for storm related impacts in the area, as a Deep Gap property was struck by lightning on Wednesday.
