Logging Accident Proves Fatal, Rural Location & Storm Impacts Rescue Efforts

A logging accident claim the life of a man on Thursday in the Triplet area. Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman tells WataugaRoads.com that the victim appears to have been cutting firewood on the scene when a tree fell pinning the man. Hagaman says that the medical investigation is on going, and the name of the victim has not been released.

The rural location, a logging site at 1660 Elk Creek Road, and a storm in that portion of the county had an impacted on rescue efforts. Stewart Simmons Fire Department along with other EMS units were dispatched to the scene to find the man still alive, but he succumb to his injuries a short time later. Officials had to rely on an ATV unit from Boone Fire Department to transport the man's body out. EMS units were dispatched around 3:42pm Thursday.
