Local school systems about to begin the 2022-23 year

Summer break is about to end for an area school system that typically starts and ends before their neighboring systems in North Carolina.

Johnson County Tennessee public schools roll back into class on Monday August 8th, as students will return for a half day.

Public schools and higher education classes in the High Country begin shortly after. Below is a list:

Avery County Schools return to class on Monday August 15

Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk classes begin Monday August 15.

Watauga campus of Caldwell Community College Fall classes begin August 17

Watauga County Schools and Ashe County Schools first day for students is Monday August 22.

Appalachian State first day of class begin Monday August 22.
