A local resident captured this photo of a Watauga County Sheriff's Deputy placing hand over heart in a heavy pour down rain during a funeral procession on Monday, July 29, 2019.

Angie Holman shares with WataugaOnline.com, “On Monday during my uncle’s funeral this happened. Not only was he standing there with his hand over his heart showing respect, he did so in the absolute pouring rain! Thank you Sir! This really means a lot! ❤️”

Holman also noted, “it was right before the entrance of the cemetery on Meat Camp Rd where Rich Mountain is.” The funeral was for Pastor Bruce Miller, who had been the pastor at Church of Deliverance for the past 39 years before his passing.

Sheriff Len Hagaman shares with WataugaOnline.com that the Deputy was Lt. Brian Bumgarner. Sheriff Hagaman went on to say, “THIS is the way to serve our citizens – never lose sight of our mission.” “Lt. Brian Bumgarner always exhibits great respect, and quietly, humbly, and respectfully sets the bar of honorable service for, and with, his coworkers.”
