A District Court Judge was among two people struck by lightning in the Great Smoky Mountains on Saturday.

During a Cub Scout camping trip Judge Roy Wijewickrama, along with a mother of a fellow camper, were struck around 1:30pm at the Balsam Mountain Campground between Maggie Valley and Cherokee, according to The Mountaineer newspaper.

Lightning struck two vehicles with four people inside and none were injured, the report says. Judge Wijewickrama and the woman were standing outside of the vehicles and were knocked to the ground.

Other parents rendered first aid to the victims and transported them to Haywood Regional Medical Center and both are expected to make a full recovery, according to the report.
