BANNER ELK, N.C. — Lees-McRae College will host a community forum about the on-campus Mill Pond at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 30 in Evans Auditorium.
Hurricane Helene caused extensive damage to the Mill Pond dam, and the college has been discussing long-term solutions for the ongoing concerns caused by that damage.
The college has partnered with environmental advocacy organization MountainTrue to develop a new vision for the Mill Pond and the surrounding area. President Lee King and Andy Hill, high country regional director for MountainTrue, will be on hand during the forum to share details about the project.
To give all community members an opportunity to share their voice and thoughts on this important campus and community resource, the forum will be hosted in association with the Town of Banner Elk.
It is the intention of the college to remain a good steward of the Mill Pond, and current plans aim to increase community access and create a safe and sustainable environment for students, residents of Banner Elk, and the wildlife that call the Mill Pond home.
