5am – minus 7 degrees with a wind chill of -39 in Boone and wind gust of 55mph.
6am – expect to find at least partially snow covered conditions along most travel routes this morning. Black ice is a strong possibility considering the temps.

This report into the Roads facebook page at 6:30am – “421 from Food Lion in good shape with light covering of snow. Slush in spots. Bamboo from 421 to Wilson's Ridge snow covered. Wilson's Ridge might be challenging without 4-wheel drive going up. Looked slushy/snow covered on the downhill. Deerfield at the S-bends snow covered. Caution recommended for 2-wheel drive vehicles. Bamboo by the airport, snow covered. Take it slow and everyone should be okay.”
7:30am – no reported major travel issues this morning. Most roads are at the very least partially snow covered, there could be possible scattered icy spots (black ice) but none have been reported yet. Main problem this morning continues to be temperature readings below zero.
8:50am – power outages: Watauga 201, Ashe 69 in Blue Ridge EMC member area
10am – sun is out but it’s still –5 with a wind chill of – 20 in Boone. Still no travel issues and none expected for the rest of the day due to weather.
