Officers with Boone Police and the Watauga County Sheriff's Department were involved in a high speed chase on Sunday night (October 26, 23015) around 10pm.
The pursuit began on highway 105 when Boone Police attempted to stop a vehicle with a fake Tennessee license plate for speeding. The vehicle then turned onto the 105 bypass and then 421 towards Vilas.
According to the Sheriff's office, the pursuit reached speeds up to 100 mph as they pursued the vehicle passing a few cars on the double yellow line at the bottom of Boone Mountain near Vilas Car Wash.
The officers pursued the car to the Tennessee state line where the chase was discontinued. Officers with the Johnson County TN and Mountain City Police Department were notified of the situation and responded to the area, but they were unable to locate the vehicle.
