Crews are battling a fire in Johnson County Tennessee near the North Carolina state line.
The fire is in the area of Antioch Road, which is closed from L Snyder LN to the NC State line, according to Johnson County Emergency Management.
As of 2:03 pm TN Division of Forestry is reporting the fire is approximately 50% contained at a size of 30 acres.
At the request of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, the Tennessee Army National Guard (TGN) is providing two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, from Knoxville’s 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion, to support firefighting efforts, according to the Tennessee National Guard.
The Tennessee National Guard was notified of the request around 9:00 a.m. CST, and at approximately 10:10 a.m. CST, two Blackhawk helicopters departed from McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base. Each aircraft is equipped with Bambi Buckets used to provide hundreds of gallons of water to fight wildfires and are prepared to deliver water from nearby water sources directly to the needed area, as well as any other missions that support first responders.
“The Soldiers, Airmen, and aircrews of the Tennessee National Guard are prepared to support firefighting efforts as long as needed.”, TGN said in a statement.
