On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Boone Police Patrol Officers responded to the area of US Highway 421 and Bamboo Road for a vehicle crash involving a bicycle. After arriving on the scene, officers determined that the bicyclist was suffering from serious injuries. The bicyclist was transported to the Watauga Medical Center for treatment. It was also determined that the vehicle that struck the bicyclist left the scene of the crash.
After a thorough investigation, officers learned that the vehicle that left the scene of the crash was an older model red GMC Sierra truck. The GMC Sierra was stopped by a Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputy. 21-year- old Alejandro Facundo of Greensboro was identified as the driver of the GMC Sierra. Facundo was charged with Felony Hit and Run, Driving While Impaired, Driving While License Revoked, Operating a Vehicle Without Two Headlamps and a Mirror Violation. Facundo was issued a court date of June 30, 2025, and placed in the custody of the Watauga County Detention Center under a $40,000.00 secured bond.
