Flood Warning Extended Until 1:45pm Today – Sunday June 9, 2019

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has extended the

* Flood Warning for…
Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…

* Until 145 PM EDT Sunday

* At 722 AM EDT, reporting rain gauges indicated that 5 to 9 inches
of rain has fallen in parts of eastern Watauga County over the
past 24 hours. Two-day totals up to nearly 12 inches have been
reported at a CoCoRaHS site east of Boone. At 730 AM…the
Watauga River at Sugar Grove stream gauge was at 8.99 feet and was
just past the crest which was 9.16 feet at 600 AM this morning.
Several low water bridges including Dewitt Barnett Rd and Hubert
Thomas Road near Sugar Grove remain flooded, with high water on
River Road along the Watauga River. County dispatch reported that
Elk Creek Road was closed due to flooding. Light to moderate
rainfall continues at this time with rates between 0.10 and 0.25
inches per hour and this may continue for several more hours.

Blowing Rock…
Beech Mountain…
Foscoe…
and Sugar Grove.

This includes The following Location Appalachian State University.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
