Local law enforcement will take to the roof of the Jefferson Bojangles on Sept. 15 for the annual Rooftop Cops event, a daylong fundraiser benefiting families of children battling cancer.
The event runs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bojangles in Jefferson. All money raised goes directly to the Rooftop Cops Childhood Cancer Fund through Badges of Ashe, which supports local families throughout the year as they face the challenges of childhood cancer. Organizers say 100% of the money raised stays local, and funds from the 2025 event have already helped two families this year.
A portion of this year's proceeds will directly benefit the Hare family. Their daughter, Merritt Hare, is a fun-loving 2-year-old who loves Mickey Mouse, Peppa Pig, riding her bike and playing with her four siblings. Merritt was recently diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer. Doctors are hopeful, but her road ahead will be long.
“Let's rally around Merritt and help support the Hare family,” organizers said. Remaining funds raised this year will be reserved to help other local families through the following year.
Multiple local law enforcement agencies plan to climb onto the Bojangles roof throughout the day and wave to supporters. Bojangles will provide face painting and balloon animals for kids, and musician Glen Sullivan will perform from 5 to 7 p.m.
