The Fifth Annual Ag & Art Adventure returns to Grayson County, Virginia, just across the state line from Ashe and Alleghany counties, on Sept. 12-13.
For five years, artisans, farmers and musicians have joined forces to offer a glimpse behind the scenes at the cultural heartbeat of Southwest Virginia's Appalachian region. The free event happens every year on the weekend after Labor Day, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the countryside of Virginia's Blue Ridge.
Farm and gallery tours run Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at eleven stops across Grayson County, with several offering food, music, vendors and kids' activities. Detailed guides are available at every stop, the Grayson County Visitor Center in Independence, and several regional Virginia Welcome Centers.
“We are proud to offer this unique event for the fifth year in a row,” said Tracy Cornett, Grayson County Tourism Director. “This year's tour and concert are the result of our hardworking farmers, artisans, musicians and residents coming together to showcase the cultural heritage of our beautiful region.”
Visitors are encouraged to collect artisan-designed “passport stamps” from each stop on Saturday for a chance to win prizes, ranging from Barter Theatre tickets to a two-night stay at Riverview Cottage in Independence. Winners will be announced during Sunday's old-time concert at the Historic Fries Theatre.
