Flood Advisory issued July 10 at 12:04PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg
.An area of rain showers, with pockets of moderate to heavy
rainfall, will track southeast from Grayson county VA into Alleghany
County NC during the next 1 to 2 hours. Much of Alleghany County NC
has seen rainfall of 2-4 inches in the past couple of days. The
ground is saturated and additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches will
quickly result in excessive runoff and cause minor flooding.
…FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON…
* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE…In northwest North Carolina, Alleghany NC.
* WHEN…Until 300 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 1201 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Minor
flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the
advisory area.
– This includes the following streams and drainages…
Brush Creek, Elk Creek, Grassy Creek, Elkin Creek, East Prong
Roaring River, Gully Creek, Crab Fork, Glade Creek, Basin
Creek, Big Pine Creek, Cove Creek and Little River.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
