The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for…
    Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
    Southwestern Wilkes County in northwestern North Carolina…
  • Until 830 PM EDT.
  • At 430 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
    very heavy rain from Deep Gap to Elkville and areas to the south.
    Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is
    ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Doppler radar.

IMPACT…Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
drainage and low lying areas.

  • Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
    Deep Gap, Elkville, and Darby

This includes the following streams and drainages…
Dutch Creek, Brushy Fork, Dugger Creek, Beaverdam Creek,
Craborchard Creek, Cove Creek, Beech Creek and Beaver Creek.

including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather
