The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for…
    Northwestern Alleghany NC County in northwestern North Carolina…
    Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…
  • Until 845 PM EDT.
  • At 618 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
    thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
    2 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts
    of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding
    is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

    Grassy Creek…

This includes the following streams and drainages…
Big Horse Creek, Crab Fork, Little Helton Creek, Big Laurel Creek,
Beaver Creek, Dog Creek, Little Horse Creek, Grassy Creek, Little
River, Little Phoenix Creek, Hoskin Fork, Helton Creek, Jerd
Branch, Call Creek and Elk Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports
