BOONE – Part of a Watauga County road will close for one week while N.C. Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert.
Browns Chapel Road will close just north of its intersection with Bamboo Road beginning Thursday, July 24, while crews install a corrugated metal pipe and concrete headwall.
The new structure will increase hydraulic capacity. Hurricane Helene damaged the existing culvert.
Detour signs will guide drivers around the closure to Bamboo Road then U.S. 221 then Old U.S. 421 to Browns Chapel Road.
NCDOT officials expect crews to finish the work by Aug. 1.
