As news of the escaped prisoner made its way to Watauga County residents on Monday, some were alerted for the first time by phone. Several comments to the Watauga Roads facebook page made reference to getting the alert and were surprised by the call.
On the heels of that event officials with Watauga County would like to remind residents that if you live in Watauga County and would like to receive emergency alerts from your local Emergency Services on your cell phone or email, go to http://www.wataugacounty.org/main/ and follow the Code Red link at the bottom of the page. Only land lines are automatically added to the list.
