Closings/Cancellations

FOR WEDNESDAY JANUARY 15

Due to some remaining snow and ice-covered roads and to allow the Weather Team time to assess conditions during daylight hours, Watauga County Schools will operate on a two (2) hour delay on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Staff may report on a two-hour delay if needed and should exercise caution while traveling. 

 Buses will travel Limited A routes with additional exceptions. Please make sure to visit our Transportation Website for updates or changes to routes in your area. 

 The Weather Team will continue to monitor conditions overnight and into the early morning hours for areas of snow covered roads or black ice and should this decision need to be changed or routes need to be adjusted, it will be communicated by 8 a.m.

 As always, parents are encouraged to exercise caution with teen drivers in areas with snow and ice- covered roads.

Avery County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay on Wednesday, January 15th. We cannot run buses on gravel roads nor on the following roads: Little Henson Creek, Tucker Hollow, Old Jonas Ridge or Joe Parlier. We will check roads in the morning and let you know by 6:30am if we need to make a change.
