Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker Campaign Underway

Last Updated on July 1, 2012 6:34 pm

State and local law enforcement officers will be out in force over the Fourth of July holiday as part of the “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign. Checkpoints and stepped-up patrols will be conducted through Sunday, July 8, across the state in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roads.

“If you decide to celebrate this Independence Day by drinking, please be responsible and designate a sober driver,” Conti said. “Getting behind the wheel after drinking can have devastating consequences.”

Governor’s Highway Safety Program Director Becky Wallace, Sheriff Ingram of Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Capt. Taft of New Hanover Sheriff’s Office, LaRhonda Scott from Mother’s Against Drunk Driving and local law enforcement kicked off the campaign at Fort Fisher in Kure Beach this morning.

There were 241 alcohol-related crashes during the Independence holiday week in 2011, which resulted in 3 fatalities and 196 injuries.
