The Boone Police Department is announcing its 5th Annual Holiday Food and Funds Drive. This charity drive will begin Monday, November 20, 2017 and will continue until Friday, January 5, 2018. The food and funds collected will go to benefit the Hunger & Health Coalition (HHC) here in Boone.
For the past 35 years, the Hunger & Health Coalition has collected, organized and distributed food, medication, clothing and firewood to needy families in our area. Last year, the Hunger Coalition’s food pantry helped feed over 30,000 of our neighbors in crisis and their free pharmacy filled over 1,400 prescriptions per month for people that can’t afford their life saving medications. As domestic resources are being re-routed to disaster effected countries around the globe, local food pantries, like the Hunger Coalition, are struggling to keep up as they face a tremendous food shortage.
“Please join the Boone Police Department in doing our part to help those in need. Every year we come together with the community, and together, we provide food and funds needed to help the Hunger Coalition continue to feed those less fortunate for months after the holidays.” – Dana Crawford, Chief of Police
The reason the Boone Police Department is hoping to raise funds this year is because the Hunger & Health Coalition can buy $5 worth of food for every $1 donated. This means that a monetary gift can do even more good than actual food donations. This may also be a more convenient giving option.
If anyone would like to support this effort they can help by making donations to this food and funds drive. Any non-perishable food is gladly accepted. The Hunger Coalition accepts cash, checks or online donations can be made at: www.hungercoalition.com.
All types of donations are being accepted in the Boone Police Department lobby. The Boone Police Department is located between the Honda Dealership and the U.S. Post Office on Hwy 321. If any other organizations, groups or individuals would like to join our efforts, please contact Lieutenant Chris Hatton with the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6942.
“This annual food drive has been very successful in years past and we hope you will help us make it a success this year too. Our Officers are involved with the Hunger & Health Coalition year-round; because, we believe in what this organization is doing, and we want to help.” – Chris Hatton, Investigations Commander
