Boone man charged with four counts of Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

Boone, NC – On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Boone Police Department conducted an investigation of a Boone man for the Possession and Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

As a result of this investigation, Sunimal Matthew De Silva, 23 years-of-age, of Boone, NC was arrested and charged with the following crimes.

  • Four counts of Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

De Silva’s court date was set for December 22, 2025 and his conditions of release were set as a total secured bond amount of $200,000.

The Boone Police Department would like to thank the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Watauga County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.

The Boone Police Department, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are members of the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which is continually engaged in proactive and reactive investigations and prosecutions of persons involved in child abuse and exploitation of children involving the internet.
