Data from the Census Bureau includes Boone as a “Most Unequal Town In Every State,” according to a recently published article, which discusses various income inequality measures.
Boone is the only North Carolina town on the list but ranks 6th overall, according to Business Insider.com
According to the Gini Index, “A low Gini coefficient indicates a more equal distribution, with 0 corresponding to complete equality, while higher Gini coefficients indicate more unequal distribution, with 1 corresponding to complete inequality.”
