Boone topped out at 86 degrees on Wednesday June 24 just before 5pm at Watauga Medical Center. That mark is considered unofficial as far as temperature records go, however there was no mistaking it was a hot day.
It was just two years ago, at nearly the same time, the WMC reporting station recorded similar temps. June 28-July 8, 2012 ranged from 91 to 80 for highs, and not since then had Boone reached 86 or above….until this month. Six times in July 2011 the high was 86 and one time each in August and September 2011.
The official all time high temperature mark for June is 94 on June 29, 1936.
