It was a delight to have some members of the Watauga High School Women’s Basketball team present at the April Board of Education meeting to be formally recognized!

Coach Bill Torgerson, Mr. Dustin Kerley and Mr. Scott Strickler all spoke on behalf of the team.

Coach Torgerson talked about their character and sportsmanship and how proud he was of how they carried themselves both on and off the court. He also thanked the Board of Education for allowing him to serve in the role of coach.

Coach Kerley shared that he heard compliments about the team from athletic directors from the mountains to the coast of our state.

Mr. Strickler shared a touching story about how on his first day as principal at Watauga High School he found a “Welcome to WHS” card from the team. He still has it on display in his office to this day. He shared how proud of them and how they exemplify teaching life skills and being good people.

Members of the Board also shared their pride for this team and how wonderfully they represented Watauga County.

Way to go, ladies! We are so proud of you and all of your accomplishments. We know you have bright futures ahead!
