Last Updated on September 8, 2025 3:26 pm

BOONE – N.C. Department of Transportation crews will begin replacing a large culvert in Watauga County.

Crews plan to begin the replacement on Bamboo Road between Deerfield Road and Buchanan Street on Tuesday, Sept. 9, weather permitting. Bamboo Road will be closed between Deerfield Road and Buchanan Street until work is finished in mid-September.

Hurricane Helene damaged the culvert last year.  The new culvert will improve water flow in the area.

A signed detour will guide drivers around the closure using Deerfield Road and Wilson Ridge Road to access Bamboo Road.
