Ashe County Sheriff’s Office warns of latest phone scam

Last Updated on June 26, 2024 2:03 pm

The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office would like to make you aware of a scam going around the county.

It has been brought to our attention that someone is calling from the ACSO main office phone number, impersonating officers. The person is saying his name is Deputy Chris Lawrence, and a warrant was issued for failure to show up for jury duty, and the bond is $4,000.

They ask you to purchase gift cards and pay over the phone, and the issue will be resolved.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to understand that ACSO will NEVER ask for money over the phone. If you receive any type of phone call asking for money or gift cards, please hang up and report to our office at 336-846-5600.
