Creston, NC – Ashe Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of 29-year-old Christopher William Daum of Tybee Island, GA, for several charges after breaking and entering a home in Creston. After the investigation Daum receives drug charges including a Felony Heroin possession.
On Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, at 1:00 a.m., Ashe County 911 Dispatch received a call from a homeowner who was currently out of town, reporting that he had received an alert that someone was inside his home. The homeowner was able to view live security footage of the suspect inside his home. Ashe County Sheriff's Office Deputies Carter, Pruitt, and Dancy arrived on scene and noticed that a window in the home had been broken out and that chairs were stacked outside, which appeared to be the entry point. After deputies made entry into the home, the male subject was taken into custody without incident. The subject was then identified as Christopher William Daum.
After investigating the residence, deputies found several items broken and the homeowners' belongings scattered throughout the residence. A backpack belonging to Daum was located with two hammers. They also discovered a clear plastic baggie containing a green, leafy substance and a glass jar containing a brown substance. Deputies conducted a field test on the brown substance, which returned a positive result for heroin. Evidence was submitted to the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for further analysis, which may result in additional charges.
Christopher William Daum, 29, of Tybee Island, GA, was booked on the following charges at the Ashe County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
