Areal Flood Advisory for Watauga & Wilkes Until 9:45pm – Friday June 7, 2019

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for…
Wilkes County in northwestern North Carolina…
Southern Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…

* Until 945 PM EDT

* At 641 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that rainfall of 1 to 1.5 inches had fallen across much of the
advisory area today. Additional rainfall is ongoing now, with more
rain poised to move into this area during the next hour.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in
the advisory area.

Boone…
North Wilkesboro…
Wilkesboro…
Blowing Rock…
and Ronda.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
Blacksburg Facebook page and on Twitter.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
