By 5pm Thursday (Aug. 17) about 2,300 students had moved into campus residence halls, according to the university. Nearly 6,000 people are expected on Friday, Aug. 18 to move in on-campus, most of whom are freshmen. By the end of the day Friday, 5,700 students will have settled into campus residence halls.

This year's BIG Sale is Saturday, Aug. 19 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Legends. Expectations are to top last year’s earnings of more than $22,000. The first “BIG Sale” and “Don’t Throw It Away” projects, were started by student Natalie Knight ’03 in 2000. Appalachian has donated close to $200,000 in proceeds from the BIG Sale to local non-profits.
This year, an estimated 68 tons of material were diverted from the landfill in May because of “Don’t Throw It Away.”
