Can you believe today is the first day of August? There are only 17 days until the first day of classes for fall 2025. We still have a few more days of summer, but it feels like those days move forward especially quickly once we turn the calendar to August.
Student-athletes are some of the students who arrive on campus well before classes begin. Our Mountaineer Football team began their fall training camp on Tuesday, and I stopped by for a quick visit with the team and Coach Loggains and his staff. We agreed that we’re all excited for a great season ahead! The Mountaineers’ first game is just 28 days away, when they play against UNC Charlotte in the Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium.
We have 17 athletics programs representing Appalachian State University, and our student-athletes continue to be conference leaders in academic honors and athletic accomplishments. I’m proud of these student leaders, and look forward to joining the Mountaineer community in supporting all of our athletics programs in the coming year.
Throughout the summer months, App State staff accomplish a tremendous amount of work to transition our university to the next academic year. Our staff establishes the foundation for student success in every area and aspect of our university. I cannot thank them enough for the many ways they work for the greater good of Appalachian State University!
If you’re a student, faculty or staff member joining App State for the first time, orientations, academic advising sessions, housing preparations, financial aid sessions, safety trainings, staff meetings and a host of other preparation measures are in the works to be ready for your arrival.
For those who are returning to campus after a break, you’ll notice many physical and aesthetic improvements to our buildings and beautiful grounds on both the Boone and Hickory campuses.
Staff support our students and faculty, ensuring the university’s indoor and outdoor physical spaces, technology, events, health care, dining, safety, equipment, business and administrative systems, information, communications and learning support infrastructures are effectively and efficiently providing a solid foundation for a community dedicated to student success. It’s easy to become accustomed to how beautiful and functional our university is, and it’s important to reflect on how fortunate we are to have such a dedicated and attentive cadre of professionals taking care of the more than 25,000 people who make up our university community — from Boone, to Hickory, to the homes of our App State Online students.
I am feeling the excitement of a new year ahead and I am grateful to those who are working to ensure it will be a wonderful experience for all of us. I hope everyone can find some personal time in the final days of summer, as we all prepare for a new academic year.
