UPDAT 11am – 321 in Blowing Rock now open. Please continue to use extreme caution traveling due to weather. 828-964-3260 for info.
U.S. 321 at Cliff Dwellers in Blowing Rock re-opened at 10:15 this morning after being closed earlier in the morning by a rockslide. The slide was small and although the roadway itself was cleared of debris, it remained closed while engineers determined that the mountain slope above the road was safe.
During the closure, traffic was detoured through the town of Blowing Rock on Business 321, the same route used when the road needs to be closed for the construction project going on in that area.
The N.C. Department of Transportation and contractor Maymead, Inc. have closed U.S. 321 at Cliff Dwellers in Blowing Rock due a rockslide that occurred early this morning. The slide is small and crews are working to clear the slide as quickly as possible; however, engineers must determine that the mountain slope is safe before the highway can be reopened to traffic. Information will be updated as it is available.
Traffic is being directed through the town of Blowing Rock on Business 321. The area also is experiencing high winds and blowing snow. Motorists should expect delays and use extra caution traveling through the area today.
