2013 broke several records for precipitation amounts in Watauga County, however recorded precipitation this year doesn't even match the difference between the two years.
Between January 1 – August 19, 2013 Boone officially recorded 64.2 inches of precipitation compared to just 28.72 inches for the same time this year. A difference of 35.48 inches.
Since modern day weather records have been kept, officially since 1980, 2014 ranks 29th wettest for the above time period where 2013 had easily already became the wettest year on record.
