2.0 Magnitude Earthquake Measured In Avery County On Monday Morning

A 2.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Avery County early Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake occurred at 3:03 am and was located 1.4 miles west-northwest of Heaton, 16.5 miles west of Boone, 18 miles southeast of Elizabethton, Tennessee.

The last time an earthquake was recorded in the High Country was July 21, 2016 when a 1.9 magnitude was centered 5 miles southwest of Newland in Avery County.
