Work continues on utility projects in the county, one will last for a few more weeks while another will last for a few more months.

Utility crews, working for Blue Ridge Energy, are continuing to make progress updating power poles in two portions of the county. The projects, which started last year along 421 in Zionville, are currently taking place on Wilson's Ridge and highway 194 between Valle Crucis and Vilas.

Renee Whitener, with Blue Ridge Energy, tells WataugaOnline.com that the Wilson's Ridge system should be completed in 2-3 weeks, while the Valle Crucis system will last another couple of months. She also adds that crews will be in Blowing Rock at least through the end of this year.

Though flagging delays have been mostly minimal, motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time in those areas.
